In this presentation, John from Red Beet Row will lead us through a variety of trees and shrubs that are tasty to eat and important for local wildlife. We will talk about how to find these trees and shrubs in Ashtabula county, their importance to local wildlife ,and the best way to prepare them for eating.
Red Beet Row is a small 7 acre education farm in Northeast Ohio (Ashtabula County) close to the PA border. We teach classes on how to grow food, medicine, and shelter in an affordable, holistic, nontoxic manner. We offer consultation and management services for your garden, orchard, or farm. We spread our love of plants through our off-grid nursery. We provide tours of our underground greenhouse, no-till gardens, hugelkultur beds, chicken tractors, solar dehydrator, wetlands, polyculture perennial beds and more, all designed to be complementary and holistic!
John is a self-taught permaculture designer. He is an excellent teacher and workshop leader for all ages. He also provides private consultations to land owners interested in transforming their property into a permaculture paradise. John was formally trained as a horticulturist at the Ohio State University. He has worked with community gardens and faith-based institutions. He knows from experience how to grow food in many different soils and climates around Ohio: tiny inner-city plot, a windowsill, hidden public spaces, on acres and acres of rural land, etc. He is a seed saver, plant-identifier, creative-thinker, and dreamer. He was born and raised in Jefferson, OH.
