About the Colosseum

The Colosseum (KOL uh SEE uhm) was the largest outdoor theater of ancient Rome and is considered one of the finest examples of Roman architecture and engineering. Construction began sometome during the reign of the Roman Emperor Vespasian (veh SPAY zhee uhn) from 69 AD to 79 AD.
